Dress up

Dancing and Drums

How could you study the letter Dd in preschool and not have a "dancy-dance"? Each student had a turn at playing the drums while the others danced. Delightful!

Dandy Day

Today was a beautiful fall day, but the playground was wet from yesterday's wonderful rain. We didn't want to have our playtime in the gym, so we played outside on the concrete. Please indulge me with the multitude of pictures (since I finally got batteries for my camera!)

Crowns and Caterpillars

This week we read "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle. First we read the story. Then we got to take turns putting the different foods on a felt apron as we told the story. Finally, we made a caterpillar from circles and glued the circles numbered 1 thru 5 on a paper to take home.

On Thursday we make crowns. Our class is doing really well on their scissor skills. I'm impressed. Our rules are: 1) Scissors are NOT a toy and 2) We ONLY cut paper. So far, so good on everyone following the rules!! We glued a letter C in the middle of the crown and then colored the crown with jewels. We wore our crowns while we read the story "Caps for Sale". It's a classic children's book from 1938. It is a great story about a peddler, some monkeys and some monkey business. Fun!

Bandaids and Blue B's

What is it about a bandaid that makes a kid love them???? Most little ones just love playing with bandaids...so our class got to put 4 bandaids on the letter Bb. We learned about the number 4 this week. Not only is it fun, but the activity really helps develop fine motor skills. (That's our story and we're sticking to it!)

Below, Brielle, Almin and Hannah show off their blue Bb's. I think we have some budding artists!
P.S. Bb is also for batteries....which died in my camera. More pix later.

Show and Tell

Our class will have Show and Tell on Thursdays beginning this week, October 7. Students may bring something related to our lessons to show the class and tell about it. When students arrive they will place their items in a basket, so they won't be playing with them through the day but please don't send anything valuable that could easily break. (See page 8 of the Parent Handbook) I told the class about "show and tell" and the children were so excited. Since we are studying the letter B this week I heard that they were going to find a bunny, a baby doll, a bear, a book and Buzz Lightyear to bring! Looking forward to it!

Aa is for Alligator

Aa was our letter of the week and 3 was our number. Our lessons included sponge painting 3 apples, astronaut art with 3 stars, and tracing the number 3. We played with animal puzzles and painted alligators with dots. Several of our students just love coloring, cutting, gluing and painting. We have an art table during center time and it is always a popular activity. Here is a picture of our kiddos wearing their alligator visors. They wore them while we read the story There's an Alligator Under my Bed by Mercer Mayer. What a great week! Lots of fun activities planned for next week as we study the letter Bb and number 4. Stay tuned!

P.S. Aa is also for Adorable!!!!

Chapel with Mr. Tony

Today, we had chapel with Mr. Tony. We sang several songs including This Little Light of Mine and Deep and Wide. He told us that God's love is shining in us and is deeper than the ocean. He said that Jesus knows the name of each of us and we are so very special. Thank you, Jesus, for loving us.

Pairs!

This week we talked about the number 2. Our Bible story was Noah and the Ark, so we learned how the animals came two by two. During center time, we chose things from a bag that came in "pairs". Here is a picture of all the pairs...everything from boots to sunglasses to earrings to bookends to a pair of pliers.

Terrific Tuesday!

The weather was beautiful on Tuesday, so we took advantage of it! We had our art time outside. Students drew their masterpieces with sidewalk chalk.

Vinnie drew a number 1, a circle, a square and an X.
Henry drew a map of Idaho. Yep. Idaho.

We ended the day with the book, The Little Engine that Could....a story time favorite.

Happy Birthday Libby!

Tuesday was Libby's birthday! So glad we could celebrate it with her. Happy Birthday to a sweet, sweet gal!

Shapes, Showers, Sharing and Shaving Cream,

We've completed our second week of preschool class. What wonderful kids we have! Here are a few pictures of our artwork made from shapes. They did a super job!

Landen, Brielle, and Hannah
Ellie, Henry is hiding, and Maddy

Libby and VinnieAlmin, Alyssa and Caleb

We had to cut our outside playtime very short. Only a couple minutes after we got outside there was a cloud burst. It only showered for a short while and certainly wasn't the rain we needed...just enough to spoil our fun. We tried to get our "wiggles" out by having an animal parade. We waddled like ducks, galloped like horses, hopped like kangaroos, flapped like birds and walked like every other animal we could name. Then we danced to a song called the Dance Machine...we swished like a washing machine and twisted like egg beaters....you get the picture.

We practiced drawing shapes in an unusual way. We drew with our fingers in shaving cream...so now you know why your child came home smelling like menthol! haha! Enjoy the pix...I love watching the children during center time. They get to choose what they want to do. Here are just a couple pictures.

Shaping Up!

We are learning about shapes and things are "shaping up" and going much smoother this week. Our class is doing a great job as we are learning lots of new rules...like lining up, no talking in the hall, cleaning up after snack and center time, sharing and taking turns. The social aspect of preschool is so important. So proud of our kiddos!!

I love watching our children sing! Here are a couple of pictures while they are singing the words "be careful little tongue what you say" and "be careful little heart whom you trust". Adorable!

Center time is Fun Time!

We learned a big word today...Cooperate. Working together and helping each other is easy and fun. We read The Little Red Hen and saw how the pig, cat and duck did not cooperate. We all cooperated when we cleaned up after Center Time. What an awesome class!

Puzzles and pretend seem to be the favorites of our class right now. We have several "puzzle masters"!!! Miss Georgeanna and Henry completed an alphabet puzzle and Brielle worked hard stringing beads.
Libby and Vinnie played with the blocks while Hannah worked a puzzle.
Ellie and Maddy, new BFF's, took a break from playing in the kitchen to pose for a pic. Adorable!
"Tea, anyone?" Alyssa is such a sweetie!
Audrey took her babies for a walk. Below, Caleb and Almin worked a color puzzle together. Look how they are both sitting the same way. Don't we have the greatest class?!
