The Nativity Story (3 yr. old style)

The angel Gabriel (also the name of Jillian's brother) came to talk to Mary. She was really scared at first. Mary was married to "Jofuss" and they went to "Beffleeham" where Jesus was born in a stable. That's where the animals were...but no elephants were there. The king was mean. Jesus got presents.

You're Invited!

Don't forget about our Christmas program on Thursday. It will be held in the auditorium and will begin at 11:00, so get there early to get the prime "picture taking" seat. Both 3's classes will sing, as well as the 2's class. We don't expect it to last more than 20 minutes and children will be dismissed as soon as it is over. Invite those friends and neighbors! There's nothing like a Christmas program to get you in the spirit!

Like a Clock with Wings...

...Time flies. I apologize for not posting on the blog for a while. I love this time of year even though it is so busy. Our class has been busy as well. The excitement is in the air. We've been practicing a new song for our Christmas program. (You'll love it, by the way). We've also been learning about the letters Ii and Jj. On Thursday, we played "Jack In the Box" and read about Jesus. The class water table (minus the water!) was set up with straw and a nativity set for the children. They played and played...but I wasn't prepared for the mess. Straw and shavings everywhere! So I apologize if your child came home with stuff stuck to his/her sweater. We tried to pick it all off, but.... What's Christmas without a few messes!

Family Pix

Thanks for sharing in our Thanksgiving Feast. It was so good to see our families together for lunch. We appreciate all the food you brought. We have so much for which to be thankful.

Trivia

A group of turkeys is called a rafter, although a gang is also an acceptable name. They have also alternately been called a gobble, although this definition is colloquial and does not appear in dictionaries. Baby turkeys are called poults.

I promised...

...a picture of our bulletin board. Our thankful "bunch" of turkeys. Hummmm...a gaggle of geese, a flock of seagulls, a covey of quails...what do you call a "bunch" of turkeys??? A feast? Stay tuned. I'll google it and let you know.

Gobble Gobble

Happy Thursday! Our class talked turkey today. We made turkeys for the bulletin board. Each tail feather represents something that student is thankful for. The list includes everything from Mommy and Daddy to Barbies, sharks, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Be sure to look at our board next time you are in our class. (Picture will be posted soon).

We also made "Where is Turkey?" books. More turkey and Thanksgiving crafts are in store next week.

What a day...

..to have the camera batteries die! What a day of fun! What a day of excitement! What a day of learning! Ff is for Firefighter. Firefighter Dutch visited our school. He dressed in full gear, complete with air pack. He showed us how we should not be afraid of firefighters when they are wearing a mask and breathing like Darth Vader. Such a valuable lesson for us all. Unfortunately, children trapped in a fire have hidden from firefighters because they were afraid of them. Firefighter Dutch showed the children that sometimes a firefighter can look scary but if they are ever in a fire, they should wave their arms and say "Here I am!" He brought fire chief helmets for each child too! Thanks so much, Dutch! We appreciate you and all your fellow firefighters.
Here's a "not so scary" picture of Dutch (who happens to be my son-in-law) with his family, Erin and little Liv. Yes...I am proud.

Fun with Letter Ff

Our class was all present and accounted for! Hooray! We are all healthy enough to be back to school. Hope you all enjoyed your fall break.

This week we are learning about the letter Ff and the number 8. We counted and glued 8 feathers on an F. (The glue is still drying. Look for it to come home on Thursday). Today we read the book titled A Fly Went By. We had fun guessing what would happen next. We learned a new song about a Little Fishy Swimming in the Bay. Playing outside was so much fun today. It was a beautiful sunny day.

A new month means a new Bible memory verse. Remember to "give thanks to the Lord" for our health, our children and a gorgeous fall day.

We had a lesson on the letter Ee, made an elephant from different shapes, read stories, learned about the number 7 , had an "elephant parade", sang songs and heard a story titled "The Pumpkin Patch Parable"....and that was all before our Harvest Party! It was complete with special snacks, games and prizes!

Thanks to EVERYONE who helped with the party. We sure appreciate you!

Dancing, Drums, Ducks, Dress-up and Dinosaurs

"Dd" week was a fun week. We danced, dug for dinosaurs in the sand table and drummed with all kinds of drums. Here's our Kaleigh playing with dinosaurs.
On Thursday, Emma, Cam and Brooklyn played with ducks in the water table. Don't they look serious?! Something across the room got their attention!

Dress-up was a hit. Ava, Jillian and Max dressed up and then played the Lucky Duck game.

Catching up on C's

Since I got a little behind on my blogging, I figured it is time to catch up! Here's a picture of Ty, Cam, Alex and Max Creating a Colossal Castle during "Cc" week. Here are Emma, Nicholas and Kaleigh counting with cards and playing the Cootie game during center time.

Coat of Many Colors

Miss Dawn is leading our Bible and singing time this week. She told us a great Bible story about Joseph and the coat of many colors. Thanks Miss Dawn!

Cows, Cookies, Caterpillars and Cocoons

You guessed it! This week we are learning about the letter C. We are emphasizing the hard C sound. You may have heard your student sing our "Letter Sound" song. It is to the tune of "Farmer in the Dell". It goes like this..."C says kuh. C says kuh. Every letter makes a sound. C says kuh." We have some great singers in our class!

On Tuesday, we Climbed up Sunshine Mountain, Crawled like Crabs, Caterpillars and Crocodiles, played with Castles, Cars and the Cow and Cookie game. We also Clapped like a Copy Cat.

Our story for the day was The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We made a caterpillar of circles. Thursday promises activities with clowns and cotton balls!

Nolan knows....

...his Bible memory verse! Galatians 5:22-23 is a long verse too! He has it down perfectly. I'm very impressed. He actually has had to help me a couple times!

Learning can be messy

Our class practiced making letters, numbers and shapes...not on paper (how boring!)...in shaving cream! Look at Cam and Brooklyn concentrate. Good job! By the way, thanks Miss Georgeanna for helping get us all cleaned up afterward.

B is for binoculars, bonnet, battery and beans

This week we learned about the letter B. Tuesday, we read Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See? and made our own book to read. Our class also painted a B then folded the paper to make it a butterfly! Beautiful! Today we painted 4 blue birds on a letter B.

Each week we get to choose something from the "What is it" bag. Here's a picture of some of the B things we found. Nicholas has a bow. Nolan found a battery in the bag and Jillian's holding a baby basketball. Ty picked a bottle out of the bag. Alex got a bag of beans. Brooklyn was beautiful in the bonnet. That's Cam behind the binoculars. Kaleigh is almost in the picture with a blue Bible and Emma is holding a bib. It was fun.

To Infinity and beyond!

Since we learned about the letter A and the number 3, our art project today was an astronaut in space. We worked on following directions and made our picture in a certain order. Each child's astronaut floated in space with 3 stars, 3 spaceship stickers and 1 yellow moon. They did a great job! I just love it when they are proud of their work. They discuss whether their picture will be hung in their room or on the refrigerator. Too cute.

Here's a picture of our munchkins after a full morning of school, all packed and ready to go home! Adorable.

This Little Light of Mine

Today during Bible time, we sang "This Little Light of Mine". It's one of their favorites.

The B-I-B-L-E. Bible!

The Paint is Drying!

Today, our class used paint to make fingerprint ants AND we made ink dot alligator pictures. Only a few dried before it was time to go home...So watch out Thursday! Get those refrigerators ready for an extreme art makeover!

Just thinking ahead....

Our harvest party will be Tuesday, Oct. 27. Students may dress in non-scary costumes. By the way, it would be extremely helpful if the costumes were...um...bathroom friendly. Just imagine trying to help a dozen 3-yr.-olds get out and in costumes to go potty. In other words, watch out for one piece costumes with bunches of buttons! Miss Georgeanna and I thank you in advance for your consideration! Happy costume shopping!!

Congratulations Ty!

Congratulations to Ty! He just acheived a major milestone. Ty learned to ride a two-wheeler. He said he doesn't even fall...except once...but it didn't hurt. Way to go, Ty!

A is for apple, aardvark and asparagus

On Tuesday, Miss Cindy's class begins learning the letters of the alphabet! Just to let you Moms and Dads know, we will not be writing the letters. For the letter Aa, we will use the short a sound. Our goal is to have the student recognize the letter and its sound. We will be making "fingerprint ants" which crawl up and down the "ant hill" in the shape of a upper-case A.

We also try to work on vocabulary... so it's not just about apple, ant and animal, but we'll have stories about aardvarks, alligators and astronauts. (Doesn't it make you wish you were 3 years old again?)

Lesson plans also include learning about the number 3. Looking forward to a fun week!

P.S. My laptop is suffering from some life-threatening ailment, so I've been using my hubby's computer to post. I can't upload pictures for now, but hope to have some for you soon.

There's gonna be a floody floody??

Rain? Yes. Flood? No.
Our class learned about Noah and the great flood and it appropriately rained on Thursday. We had our playtime in the gym. The class enjoyed riding the tricycles, rolling on the tumbling mats and playing ball inside.
During art we put shaving cream on the tables and drew pictures and shapes in the cream. We had a blast! What artists we have!

Two by Two

Next week, our class will be learning about Noah and the great flood. We will also be studying the number 2. We'll have fun matching items, sorting things into pairs and reviewing all the colors of the rainbow.

Say "CHEESE"

Just a quick reminder that school pictures will be taken on Tuesday. Wear your best smile!

Miss Georgeanna is Awesome!

Miss Georgeanna is the assistant in our class. She has worked at Hazel Dell Christian Preschool for several years now. I don't know what we would do without her! She is the best! Thank you Miss Georgeanna for all you do!

"Shape-ing" up!

Miss Cindy's class is learning about shapes. We are also adjusting to our routine. Our day is so full of activities. Today, we read a book called Bear in a Square. Cam told us about his grandfather who just saw a real bear when he went hunting. Nicholas said there is a real bear that comes in his room! Alex said the bear that comes in his room is just pretend. Too funny!!

Here are a few pictures of our day....

"Ladies and Gentlemen!" Max, Ty and Nicholas put on a puppet show during Center Time.

Emma and Jillian created some silly Mr. Potato Heads.Ava and Brooklyn are sorting shapes. Ava's elephants are helping.
The sandbox is a favorite on a beautiful day like today. We get to play with Miss Dawn's class on the playground.

YUM! It's snack time!

Alex, Brooklyn, Max, Emma and Nolan.

We worked really hard today holding our crayons correctly and tracing shapes. Moms and Dads, have your child point out different shapes all around you. We have some great "detectives" in our class. They discovered that the eye of "weather frog" on our wall, is an oval inside a circle. That oval was tiny!!! Great job!

Looking forward to Thursday!
