Dress up

Dancing and Drums

How could you study the letter Dd in preschool and not have a "dancy-dance"? Each student had a turn at playing the drums while the others danced. Delightful!

Dandy Day

Today was a beautiful fall day, but the playground was wet from yesterday's wonderful rain. We didn't want to have our playtime in the gym, so we played outside on the concrete. Please indulge me with the multitude of pictures (since I finally got batteries for my camera!)

Crowns and Caterpillars

This week we read "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle. First we read the story. Then we got to take turns putting the different foods on a felt apron as we told the story. Finally, we made a caterpillar from circles and glued the circles numbered 1 thru 5 on a paper to take home.

On Thursday we make crowns. Our class is doing really well on their scissor skills. I'm impressed. Our rules are: 1) Scissors are NOT a toy and 2) We ONLY cut paper. So far, so good on everyone following the rules!! We glued a letter C in the middle of the crown and then colored the crown with jewels. We wore our crowns while we read the story "Caps for Sale". It's a classic children's book from 1938. It is a great story about a peddler, some monkeys and some monkey business. Fun!

Bandaids and Blue B's

What is it about a bandaid that makes a kid love them???? Most little ones just love playing with bandaids...so our class got to put 4 bandaids on the letter Bb. We learned about the number 4 this week. Not only is it fun, but the activity really helps develop fine motor skills. (That's our story and we're sticking to it!)

Below, Brielle, Almin and Hannah show off their blue Bb's. I think we have some budding artists!
P.S. Bb is also for batteries....which died in my camera. More pix later.

Show and Tell

Our class will have Show and Tell on Thursdays beginning this week, October 7. Students may bring something related to our lessons to show the class and tell about it. When students arrive they will place their items in a basket, so they won't be playing with them through the day but please don't send anything valuable that could easily break. (See page 8 of the Parent Handbook) I told the class about "show and tell" and the children were so excited. Since we are studying the letter B this week I heard that they were going to find a bunny, a baby doll, a bear, a book and Buzz Lightyear to bring! Looking forward to it!

Aa is for Alligator

Aa was our letter of the week and 3 was our number. Our lessons included sponge painting 3 apples, astronaut art with 3 stars, and tracing the number 3. We played with animal puzzles and painted alligators with dots. Several of our students just love coloring, cutting, gluing and painting. We have an art table during center time and it is always a popular activity. Here is a picture of our kiddos wearing their alligator visors. They wore them while we read the story There's an Alligator Under my Bed by Mercer Mayer. What a great week! Lots of fun activities planned for next week as we study the letter Bb and number 4. Stay tuned!

P.S. Aa is also for Adorable!!!!
